Skin Pigmentation Removal

Laser Pigmentation Removal works to safely and effectively reduce the appearance of freckles, pigmentation, sun spots and age spots. The laser targets only the pigmented lesion in the skin which absorbs the light, without damaging the surrounding skin. The laser heats up and shatters the pigment. The pigment is then drawn to the surface without harming the surrounding tissue.

Once drawn to the surface, the pigmented lesions will fade or dry and flake off the treated area, leaving the skin with an even tone and complexion.

What is Hyperpigmentation?

Skin Pigmentation is caused by melanin – a pigment in your body that gives your skin, eyes and hair its colour. When you have an imbalance in melanin levels, skin pigmentation or hyper-pigmentation can occur.

What's the difference between Melasma and Hyperpigmentation?

Hyperpigmentation is where one patch of skin becomes darker than the surrounding skin. The leading cause for hyperpigmentation is sun exposure, alongside other factors such as acne scarring, medications or inflammation.

Melasma is a specific type of hyperpigmentation that is caused by hormonal changes within the body. These darker patches of skin are commonly found in women and target the face, on a person's chin, cheeks, nose, upper lip or other cranial areas.

What to Expect from your treatment:

Consultation

It is advisable to have a consultation before your treatment. During your consultation, we will assess the problem area and discuss the most suitable treatment plan for you.

It is also recommended to have a patch test to ensure that your skin is able to tolerate laser treatment. Laser treatments are not recommended for darker skin tones.

Procedure

Pigmentation removal is performed using a YAG Picosecond Laser. We will carefully and precisely target the pigmentation with the laser. Recovery & Results

Immediately after the procedure, the treatments area may appear white. This will disappear after 15-20 minutes. You may experience a small degree of inflammation, redness and sensitivity for several hours after your treatment.

Over the following few days, the treated area my scab (the amount varies depending on the depths of pigmentation and area treated). A balm will be provided for you to use as the skin heals. Once the scab has lifted, new pink skin will appear. As the skin heals, the colour will return to your normal skin tone. Results are usually seen within 7-10 days.

Clients are usually able to see an improvement in the appearance of their pigmentation after just one session. However, stubborn or larger areas may require multiple sessions to reach your aesthetic goals. Additional treatments should be repeated 6 weeks apart.
