Face and lip fillers (dermal fillers) are used to add volume and fill in lines and wrinkles to areas such as your lips, cheeks, nose to mouth, jawline, chin, etc.

Fillers are not permanent. They usually last between 6 and 18 months, although this can vary depending on the type of filler used, where it is injected, and the general lifestyle of the client.

Most dermal fillers used in the UK contain a natural substance called hyaluronic acid which is already found in our bodies. If you have fillers, the rest of your face will continue to age as usual.

What Happens When You Have Fillers?

An anesthetic cream is often used first to pre-numb your skin before the treatment. The dermal filler is then injected into the treated area, and gently massaged. 

It may feel uncomfortable during the treatment but should not be painful (although everyone's pain threshold varies). The treatment itself usually takes around 30 minutes, depending on the area being treated.

After Your Treatment

It is normal to experience tenderness for 7-14 days after treatment. The affected area may be a bit red, sore and swollen immediately after the treatment but any swelling or bruising should settle down in a few days.

You should be advised about what to do to help reduce the risk of side effects. This includes not wearing make-up immediately after the procedure and avoiding alcohol, coffee, and the sun. It is recommended that you keep hydrated by drinking plenty of water before and after your treatment.
